Our early ancestors didn’t have food readily available and would therefore regularly go through cycles of feast and famine. Our bodies have adapted to easily tolerate and even crave this up and down cycle of food!

It was discovered that going without food for a period of time allowed the body to stop using energy to constantly break down and digest food and instead focus on repair! It also kickstarts some pretty amazing benefits for your body.

When you go without food for over several hours, your body begins to burn stored energy (Sugar) for fuel from the food you previously ate. Before it can burn fat, it will burn through all your body’s stored sugar!

After roughly 12 hours, your body will have run out of all it’s readily available energy , leaving it with only FAT to burn for fuel. Once your body begins to burn fat for fuel, you enter a state known as ketosis.

During this phase your body is burning through massive amounts of fat to keep up with the energy demands that your brain and body require!

This means as your body is fasting your body will begin to burn it’s own fat, helping you lose fat and drop weight!

Ketosis can be difficult to achieve by changing diet alone, since you would need to completely avoid all sugar and carbohydrates in order to force your body to burn fat. This can be quite challenging and take some time.

Fasting gives your body no choice! 

Fasting deprives your body of food for a short amount of time, making it neccessary for your body to get into fat-burning mode, helping your metabolism burn your own fat for fuel!

The first thought I had when I heard of fasting was “I’m going to have to starve myself…maybe even for multiple days! I’m OUT!”
